These Cactaceae plants are native to the highlands of Mexico.

Mature plants can grow up to 95 cm in height to 20 cm in diameter with sweet smelling yellow flowers of ~ 7 cm.

Ribs: when young usually 4 (sometimes 3), increasing with age to ~ 8.
